Day 1  Bagdogra airport to Bordertown of Bhutan (170 kms in plain)

Arrival at Bagdogra from Delhi or Kolkota and then transfer to Bhutan border town, Phuntsholing which is about 3 hrs drive in the West bangal plains. Night in Bhutan side of the town.

Day 2  Phuntsholing to Paro (178 kms) (Paro 2300 mts high)

Morning get yourself familar with the Bikes for about an hr and then start off to Paro in the Himalayan bends. The ride is 178 kms and will take about 7 hrs. It is the first motorable road built in Bhutan in 1960 to 1965 and is the most important road for Bhutan.

Day 3  Paro to Thimphu (57 kms) (Thimphu 2300 mts high)

Full day sightseeing in Paro, if interested one can even hike up to Taktsang Monastery (Tigernest Monastery) built on a steep cliff about 600 mts higher from the vally. It will take about 3 hrs to walk up and then back. It is worth doing the hike. Evening ride to Thimphu the capital of Bhutan and it is about 1 hr ride on a double lane road. 57 kms

Day 4  Thimphu halt

Full day sightseeing in the capital town of Bhutan where traffic is still controlled with Policeman with few roundabouts. Thimphu has population of about 100,000 people. Places of interest are School of 13 different Arts of Bhutan where children are trained, National Library, Tashichodzong the central government building. Afternoon free time in town on your own.

Day 5  Thimphu to Wangdiphodrang via Punakha (78 kms) (P/kha & wangdi 1400 mts high)

After 20 kms you will be ridding over Dochula pass (3100mts high) where one will have spectacular view of snow-capped Himalayas and the pass itself has lots of Stupas and Prayer flags built there. On reaching Punakha visit the Dzong which is the most beautiful of it’s kind in the country. Then visit Wangdiphodrang which is about 12 kms south of Punakha.

Day 6  Wangdiphodrang to Bumthang via Trongsa (180 kms) (B/thang 2600 mts high)

The road goes up with gradual up through small villages and rice fields to Pele La pass (3400 mts high) After the pass is downhill till Trongsa and then visit the Dzong. There is another Yotong la pass (3600 mts high) between Trongsa and Bumthang. Bumthang is a beautiful valley and just before you enter Bumthang one can see weavers.

Day 7  Bumthang halt

Sightseeing in the valley with car or walking as the valley is beautiful through fields & villages. Places of interest are like Jampay Monastery from 7th century, Kurjey Monastery from 8th century, Swiss farm and then stroll in Jakar town.

Day 8  Bumthang to Mongar (190 Kms) (Mongar 1800 mts high)

Today will be a long day and you are ridding over the highest motorable pass in Bhutan which is Thrumsingla pass (4000 mts high) Before the pass you will be passing by Ura valley with it’s unique village. After the pass is quite a downhill till 700 mts high where you can see the rare Golden Langure monkies which are found only in Bhutan.

Day 9  Mongar halt

Day’s excursion to Lhuentsi district towards north of Mongar. Visit the Dzong in Lhuentsi and then the village around. Some of Bhutan’s Royal Family members are from Lhuentsi. A very huge statue of Guru Padmasambhava ( person who brought Buddhism to Bhutan in 8th century) is under construction before Lhuentsi. Total distance will be about 100 kms

Day 10 Mongar to Tashigang (85 kms) (T/Gang 1400 mts high)

Ride from Mongar takes you over Korila pass (3000 mts high) to Yadi village and then further down the Yadi loops which is worth for photo stop. Once can also see how Lemon Grass oil is prepared by the road-side. Visit Tashigang Dzzong and then the little beautiful town. Then ride another 30 mins to Radi town where you will spend the night.

Day 12            Radi halt to see around the villages and Farm-house visit.

Radi is a beautiful village in far north-east Bhutan where raw-silk is produced once. But the village is still known for it’s beautiful weaving and one can see weavers in every house. You will be able to see the Nomadic tribe dressed in their own ways with leather pants and dress made from Yak hair. Their village is called Merak & Sakten which is not far from Radi.

Day 13            Radi, Tashigang to Samdrupjongkhar (190 kms) (S/Jongkhar 400mts high)

On the road to S/Jongkhar you will be passing Kanglung village, where the University of Bhutan is and then Khaling village where there is a weaving centre organized by National Women’s Association of Bhutan. The change of vegetaion is very interesting on this road.

Day 14            Samdrupjongkhar to Gauhati (120 kms)

Enter Assam and then ride in the plains of Assam to Gauhati the capital of Assam. You will be crossing Bramaputra river before reaching Gauhati city.

After noon free time on your own to walk around in the city or relax to re-collect your trip.

Day 15 Departure from Gauhati to Delhi or Kolkota by Air or train.
